Taiko is a small Japanese restaurant at 14775 Jeffrey Road in Irvine, in a shopping center off Jeffrey. Regulars have been eating here for decades, and the dine-in entrance is around the back.

Sushi, Sashimi and Sets

The sushi bar covers nigiri and sashimi from tuna, salmon and yellowtail to sea urchin and salmon roe, plus hand rolls and a list of specialty rolls; reviewers mention the spicy tuna roll and the ninja hand roll. Sashimi plates come piled high, and portions run larger than the photos.

The kitchen side of the menu has tempura, teriyaki, grilled mackerel, udon and eel over rice. Combination dinners pair two items such as sashimi, tempura or teriyaki, and the teishoku meal sets and lunch specials are the better-value way to eat here.

Before You Go

Taiko serves lunch from 11:30 AM to 2 PM and dinner from 5 to 9 PM, Monday through Saturday. On Sunday it opens for dinner only, from 4:30 to 8:30 PM.
